Prof. Dr. I Nyomas Sudyana, the dead of the University of Palangka Raya (Unpar)’s Faculty of Medicine, said that Unpar, the oldest higher education institute in Central Kalimantan Province, was not subordinate to the University of Indonesia (UI). Consequently, UI had no right to prohibit the establishment of new faculties by Unpar.
Nyoman said that Unpar had only collaborated with UI to design courses so that Unpar’s medical faculty could stand on its own two feet. Unpar also had a letter from the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Directorate General of Higher Education authorizing its medical studies program to be upgraded to a Faculty of Medicine.
According to the prevailing rules, he said, the establishment of a faculty and appointment of a dean are the responsibility of the chancellor of the higher education institute in question, rather than the dean of a faculty in another university.
