Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh has warned state colleges not to take advantage of the Disadvantaged University Student Assistance Scheme (Bidik Misi). Every student that faced financial difficulties had a right to receive a third-level education in a state college.

Andalas University (Unan) Rector Dr. Werry Darta Taifur said that his university had paid out Bidik Misi allowances to a total of 2,050 students. In 2012, he said, 22 medical students had benefitted from the scheme.

Separately, Deputy Minister of Education and Culture Musliar Kasim said that BSM funding under the revised 2013 national budget amounted to Rp 7.43 trillion, to be distributed among 16.6 million students. This figure excluded an additional Rp 100.8 billion for Bidik Misi allowances (Rp 53.4 billion via the Ministry of Education and Culture and Rp 47.4 billion via the Ministry of Religious Affairs).
