The Ministry of Education and Culture, through Makassar State University in South Sulawesi, has sent 63 teachers to Biak Numfor District in Papua. These teachers are graduates of the teacher’s profession program where teachers earn a degree to educate students in outpost, outermost, and left behind regions (3T) in Indonesia. These teachers will be officially placed in all school levels from elementary up to senior high/ vocational schools in order to fulfill Biak Numfor’s need for educators.
On a separate occasion, Head of the Biak Numfor Education Office, Hendri Jan Rumkabu, said this program is a national program held by the Ministry of Education and Culture along with five other Ministries aimed at educating Indonesian children in outpost, outermost, and left behind regions. The amount of teachers deployed to Biak in 2013 dropped to 63 teachers. The first and second deployment of teachers to Biak reached 87 teachers specializing in educating children in outpost, outermost, and left behind regions.
