Culture and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendy has asked regents and mayors across the nation to help his ministry distribute the Indonesian Smart Card (KIP), which has recently hit a snag.
The ministry has recorded that about 6 million cards have already been received by rightful holders – needy and poor children and youth aged 6 to 21 years old. Previously, the ministry aimed to distribute all 17.9 million cards by the end of August as the new academic semester was approaching.
Minster Muhadjir Effendy said he hope all regents and mayors can help mobilize subdistrict heads to proactively ensure the distribution of KIP. I hope we can at least reach 60 % distribution by the end of September.
The minister directly observed the distribution of KIP in Malang, East Java, by visiting some schools on Friday. Muhadjir said he want to check the KIP distribution so that he can immediately make a report to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
The regent of Malang, Rendra Kresna, acknowledged that only about 40% of the cards have been distributed to the rightful holders because some parents had yet to register to receive the cards for their children.
