Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti) is responsible for the development of the national innovation system, as shown by the establishment of research centers relating to science and technology, or commonly known as science techno park (STP).
The government targeted some 100 STPs across Indonesia by the end of 2019. To date there are 67 STPs under Kemenristek Dikti, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Affairs, Ministry of Industry and other non-governmental research institutions.
Menristek M. Nasir revealed that STP now does not focus so much on efforts to improve technology but more towards utilization of regional potential or local knowledge. Such an example is the innovative research developed in STP Jember whereby its production of coffee and cocoa is acknowledged as the best in the world. Nasir added that this fact is important so that our future research will not only being stored in libraries but produce real benefits according to its potential and the needs of communities in the related area.
