Culture Experts Support Character Education

Ministry of National Education (Kemendikbud) invited culture experts to assist students to love the traditional arts. This idea was to support the plan to implement character education in school or full day school.

Minister of National Education (Mendikbud), Muhadjir Effendy, at the event of Audiensi Seniman dan Budayawan Sumatra Barat at Lembaga Penjaminan Mutu Pendidikan (LPMP) office of West Sumatra Province, on Saturday (24/9), said that students should be educated to love their culture in order to build a strong noble culture for the nation. Students’ interest in traditional arts must also be fostered from an early age and they should also be introduced to traditional games.

He revealed that Kemendikbud attempted to strengthen the education of character to help the youth of this nation in building a fine, strong and cultured personality.

Muhadjir added that culture experts can play a part in this education process since every region has its own local wisdom that cannot be separated from the education process. The movement of character education can help to preserve such local wisdom. The process can be carried out by utilizing cultural centers, cultural parks and other cultural facilities.
