Higher Education/ the university is one of the places with a major role in generating research. In this way, existing research could be applied in society and improve the nation’s competitiveness. One effort universities need to conduct is a paradigm shift in education. One of which is the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) that conducted academic reorientation from being research oriented to becoming a socio-entrepreneurial university.
UGM Rector Dwikorita Karnawati said publications are of no use if the results cannot be implemented to the public. Through the socio-entrepreneurial spirit, UGM does not only focus on pursuing patents, but also commercializing innovative research products to be distributed to the public.
Dwikorita explained the various innovation centers developed for the purpose of preparing UGM superior research products in various strategic fields, such as health, information technology, food to renewable energy. To support this UGM developed the teaching industry and the science techno park. Dwikorita added that building networks and synergy in the industrial world is much needed for the sake of research down-streaming. Unfortunately, connectivity among universities and industry has not been properly connected.
