Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti) encourages strengthening of innovation in the regions through Regional Innovation System or Sistem Inovasi Daerah (SIDa). Kemristekdikti Director General of Innovation Strengthening, Jumain Appe said promoting sustainable development is incomplete without science and technology and innovation. He explained in achieving SDGs worldwide, he is aware that the city plays a major role. Hence, the importance of the role from contributions of the mayor, regional administration and representatives in advocating SDGs.
According to him, SIDa is aimed to expedite regional development and the success of regional administration programs. Therefore, each region and territory should have its own specialization/ specialties including local knowledge and culture for the development of innovation in order to be able to compete in the global arena. In addition, with the presence of specific challenges and potentials in each region, the strategies implemented differ in developing innovation policy.
Furthermore, Jumain added, in the Regional Innovation System, innovative territories are identified as people who have local capacity to mobilize and re-configure local resources to strengthen entrepreneurial climate.
He added it needs to be underlined that it is important to expand/broaden the paradigm of innovative territories towards geographical proximity. The current development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has allowed us to interact with outsiders/parties abroad so transfer of knowledge could be conducted.
