Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti): Foreign Universities still lack Familiarization/Promotion in Indonesia.

Suara Pembaruan, page 16

The Expert Staff  to the  Director of Human Resources Qualifications of the  Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti), John Pariwono, said that in relation to improving  the quality of university lecturers, the Indonesian government  has completed the Indonesian Top Lecturer Scholarship Foreign and Domestic  (Budi LN and DN) Program, and that is the 2016 Special BUDI LN.

John explained that the Budi LN is especially for the doctoral program, and this year the government has provided a quota of 300.  The candidates will be  free to choose the universities  in accordance with their  submitted research proposals, as well as the requirements of the Ministry (Kemenristekdikti). For example, the proposed university must rank higher than Indonesian universities in terms of world rankings and has been well known by the candidates as it has established cooperation with Indonesia.

John said that based on the statistics to date, the number of foreign universities that promote their programs are still low. The universities that promote in Indonesia are still the same every year. So many Indonesian students prefer to study to the colleges/universities already known to them. There are many good universities, but do not become the destinations of the students due to lack of promotions.  According to John promotional activities are very important for the foreign universities, so when taking the doctoral program, these prospective students already have thorough/sufficient  information.
