Minister of Manpower (Menaker) M. Hanif Dhakiri, asked universities (PT) to have an orientation towards vocational education. This demand needs to be immediately undertaken so that university graduates can match the demands of the working market.
Hanif said that universities must be oriented towards vocational education in order to have graduates who meet the demands of the working market. Hanif will also encourage research in universities to be synergetic with the business field and government.
All this time, universities have carried out research without considering whether such research can turn into something concrete or provide suggestions for government policies. Hanif wanted to strengthen the research capability in universities with supervision.
He wanted Indonesia to follow an example from Germany where universities become centers for Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET). In Germany, centers of TVET are not monopolized by industries and government but in the hands of universities and are jointly managed together with industries and government. By taking the example of such a pattern from Germany, Indonesia can determine the future trend of manpower in the nation. Indonesia, therefore, can map the trend of manpower and also the working market for the next 10 years.
Hanif invited universities to work together with the government in mapping the needs of the working market. For in this way, a match between university graduates and industries can be achieved.
