Hamid Muhammad, the Culture and Education Ministry’s director general of elementary and secondary education, said on Friday that distribution of the Indonesian Smart Card (KIP) was almost complete.
Based on information received by KIP vendors, as of Sep. 28, 17,067,951 from the total of 17,9 million smart cards had been received by its targeted beneficiaries. He said that the government was still in the process of distributing the remaining 765,193 smart cards, whereas 94,164 smart cards were returned by recipients.
Hamid said some of the recipients returned back the smart cards because they had graduated from school, passed away or moved to a different address. Hamid said some recipients also have returned their card because they feel they have become financially capable.
Distribution of the smart cards have suffered delays due to administrative problems. Previously, it was expected to be completed by Aug. 23.
