Minister of National Education (Mendikbud), Muhadjir Effendy, will continue the implementation of the additional school hours program, his ministry having prepared a road map up to 2020. This additional school hours program aims at Strengthening Character Building (PPK). Students will be guided in learning local wisdom to strengthen their characters. Implementation of PPK is not just at schools, however, but also outside the school environment by using all sources of local wisdom, although school will still remain the party in charge.
The PPK road map starts with developing the concept from October to December 2016 through Phase One and Phase Two trials. Based on this road map, there will be 42 schools participating in Phase One and 500 schools in Phase Two.
Meanwhile, there will be independent and gradual implementation in 2017. As a target for 2017, there will be 1,626 SD and SMP schools that will implement PPK, while for 2018, there will be 3,252 schools from 34 provinces. In 2019 and 2020, his Ministry will only develop independent PPK so that PPK will be implemented in all schools by 2020.
Muhajdir said that several regencies are ready to implement PPK. One of them is Bantaeng Regency, South Sulawesi. In addition, Aceh Province is also ready. He added that there will be a special package for underdeveloped, remote and outermost areas (3T). It is also possible that PPK program will be improved by establishing boarding schools whereby students will stay at the boarding school for five days.
