President Joko Widodo issued instructions to have the right targets in distributing budgets for education and health. He revealed that the increase in the budget for education has not been followed by equal results. The President revealed this when leading a limited meeting to discuss the effectiveness of education and health expenses of APBN at the Presidential Office in Jakarta, yesterday.
He also gave instructions to carry out a total transformation in the education services to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. President Jokowi also provided his response in regard to the information he received relating to the condition of inadequate infrastructure and education facilities in this country.
He added that of some 1.8 million classrooms, only 466,000 are in a good condition. There are 100,000 of 212,000 schools that do not have proper education facilities. Therefore, he required this total reformation to improve the quality of education.
President Jokowi also asked that the budget allocated for education be effectively used to enhance the quality and access to education. The access for poor families to obtain education must be prioritized.
On the same occasion, Minister Muhadjir Effendy explained that his Ministry has changed the system to distribute KIP by using basic data of education from schools. He admitted that the previous system using data from BPS 2011 and their update in 2012 had not been effective due to invalid data.
