Papua Will Have A Number of Boarding Schools in 2017

Education and Culture Minister, Muhadjir Effendy, said that the government will build a number of boarding schools in Papua Province in 2017. These schools will help alleviate student problems in attending school due to the long distance from their homes as under the current condition.

The regent and head of department of education of Merauke, as well as other regents in Papua will soon prepare the plan for building the boarding schools and submit it to Kemendikbud.

Muhadjir said that rather than building many schools but each for just a few students, it is better that the government build fewer schools but with larger capacity so that they will be more efficient and easy to coordinate. In addition to boarding schools, vocational schools (SMK) will also be built according to the needs of related society or areas and it is expected that the draft of the plan will be prepared immediately.
