Minister of National Education (Mendikbud) Muhadjir Effendy and Regent of Jayapura, Mathius Awoitauw inspected one of the schools recommended for Strengthening of Character Building (PPK) program or Full Day School (FDS) in SDN Inpres Kampung Harapan, Kecamatan Sentani, Kabupaten Jayapura, Papua on Friday (7/10). This visit was a sign of affirmation that PPK is properly supported and implemented from Aceh to Papua. Recently, there have been 42 schools recommended for PPK in 22 provinces. There will be around 500 schools in 34 provinces by this November.

PPK will be gradually implemented with consideration of the condition of infrastructure, culture and the diversity in the provision of education across the regions in Indonesia and include both state and private schools in city and village areas, plus the area of 3T (tertinggal, terdepan, terluar).

PPK should pay attention to the harmony of heart (ethics), feeling (aesthetics), body (kinesthetic) and mind (literacy of reading, writing and arithmetic). Such harmony should be implemented in the intra-curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and non-curricular activities to build the students’ characters.
