The Regency Administration (Pemkab) of Purwakarta allocated a budget of Rp 10 billion to hire hundreds of teachers from the five religions recognized by the government. This budget has come from the changed subsidy allocations handled by the provincial administration (Pemprov) for high schools in 2017. This was explained by Purwakarta Regent, Dedi Mulyadi in a meeting with interfaith figures, on Monday (10/10).
Dedi said that the budget for the religion teachers prepared was around Rp 1 million to Rp 1.5 million per month per teacher. He asked the Islam Religion teachers to teach students how to read the Koran.
While for the non-Muslim students in Purwakarta, Dedi ensures that they would receive their rights to obtain religious education. This was because the policy does not only apply for the Muslim students alone. The Purwakarta Pemkab has planned to assign one Islamic teacher for each school. As for the non-Muslim students they would be gathered in one school accompanied by one religion teacher based on the faith of the students.
He added that the presence of the teachers and researcher in religious studies who are placed in these schools would not interfere with the religious education lessons in the curriculum. According to him, the religious lessons would continue to be conducted as usual in accordance with the rules in the set curriculum.
