More and more bans are being issued by Mendikbud Muhadjir Effendy. The latest is the ban on teachers using student worksheets (LKS) and opening private course services. He stressed that learning must be completely finished in the classroom or school.

This prohibition was revealed by the Minister following the opening of World Culture Forum (WCF) 2016 in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali yesterday (3/10). He was determined to issue this prohibition. In relation to LKS, he suspected a biased relationship between teachers and LKS publishers. Muhadjir recommended to ending such cooperation. Teachers should only concentrate on their teaching. In addition, he revealed, Kemendikbud has supplied official books with sufficient exercise items and thus the role of LKS can be omitted.

Muhadjir further said that LKS encourages teachers to give homework to the students. In fact, parents are the ones who might do the homework instead of the students themselves. LKS, therefore, cannot become the indicator that students are studying at home.

Meanwhile, in relation to opening private course services, Muhadjir considered it as inappropriate. He stressed that any material learning must be completed within school hours. Should certain students still lack in understanding, teachers must resolve it or provide enrichment in the classroom. He revealed that teachers who have private course services are in non-compliance with the policy on the ban of giving homework. The purpose of the prohibition in giving homework is to provide students with more time with their family. Students must not be subject to extra burdens because of homework or private course hours.
