The National Santri Day commemoration on 22 October was the momentum to further pay attention to the quality of education in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). In the view of Chairman of the Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah Youths Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, santri (students of pesantren) should have sufficient capability and integrity in order to compete in the globalization era.  To improve the quality of santri, the pesantren curriculum should be compatible with the needs of globalization.  The aim is to urge the santris to be competitive.

In addition to improving the competencies of santri, another important matter is to maintain the integrity of honesty and moral values. Do not let santri be among those in society with no integrity.

Chairman of the Governing Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Masudi Syuhud deems the government’s attention towards madrasah dan public schools differ.  Moreover, the attention to private pesantren. He regrets this very much, considering pesantren are the oldest educational institutions that are the forerunners of the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia. Therefore, he asked the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) not to underestimate pesantren.
