Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has promised to provide Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP), the city’s financial assistance program aimed at students from low-income families, to Jakarta students studying at Islamic boarding schools outside the city.
He added that the cards would also be given to students from Jakarta who won places at state universities either in Jakarta or outside the capital. The college students would receive funding of between Rp 18 million (US$1,386) and Rp 30 million per year.
he explained that his party will provide students studying at universities outside Jakarta with Rp 18 million a year, while those studying in Jakarta will perhaps need around Rp 30 million. He said that Pemprov DKI Jakarta now is still arranging this.
