The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) is planning to build 140 boarding schools in border areas throughout Indonesia. The areas to be focused are, namely Papua, West Kalimantan and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said a trip to school in the border areas could take one to two hours. He assumed the construction of boarding schools in border areas is not going to get a maximum number of students. However, students no longer need to go back and forth through long distances.
He did not dismiss, the construction of boarding schools will cost greater than building a dormitory for students in Jakarta. Muhadjir cited cement needs in Lanny Jaya, Papua, must be supplied by plane. This school development plan is a follow up of other existing boarding schools.
