Ministry of National Education (Kemendikbud) plans to reduce the number of receivers of Smart Indonesia Program (PIP) in 2017. The receivers will be reduced to 16.4 million students from the previous 17.9 million. This was revealed by Mendikbud, Muhadjir Effendy, in the working meeting with Commission X DPR RI in Jakarta, Senin (24/10).
Muhadjir explained that previously, target of PIP receivers was for 17.9 million students with a budget of Rp9.5 billion, of which 10.3 million were SD students, 4.3 million SMP students, 1.3 million SMA students and 1.8 million SMK students.
Adjustment was applied to PIP receivers of 20-21 years old becoming 1,439,436 students. The budget, therefore, decreased to some Rp8.94 billion. For 2017, Kemendikbud plans a target of 16.4 million students as PIP receivers with a budget amounting to Rp8.6 billion with 9.5 million SD students, 4 million SMP students, 1.2 million SMA students and 1.6 million SMK students.
Muhadjir added that the adjustment to the number of PIP receivers was formulated together with the Ministry of Social Affair and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK). Currently, such a formulation is the result of assumptions and pointers, and the target of PIP is likely on the high side. According to a review and assessment, Kemendikbud has substituted the previous target of 4.1 million student drop-outs with 1.4 million student candidates. Previously, President Joko Widodo had instructed that the excess budget of PIP be transferred to rehabilitating schools.
