The limited number of Indonesian researchers also does not escape the interest of society to become a researcher; especially for the younger generation today. Director General of Innovation Strengthening, Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti), Jumain Ape said that young people’s interest in the research world is still lacking.
Jumain explained young people are usually happier to immediately apply for jobs after they complete their education in universities. In addition, another thing also affecting the lack of interest in the research world by the younger generation is the existing climate. Given the lack of budget provided, prompts young people to be reluctant to pursue the world of research.
So, continued Jumain, it should also be noted on the climate. For research and technology, the budget entering is only Rp1.8 trillion. The budget is more widely used for faculty salaries as well as facilities and infrastructure. For research itself the budget is small.
