Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) Muhammad Nasir is considering raising the cost of living for Bidikmisi scholarship recipients. The government is also focusing on increasing the number of Bidikmisi scholarship quota. The reason, until now, students only receive Rp 600,000 per month.
Nasir admitted that this discourse does not increase drastically. At the most children would get additional allowance of Rp 100,000. Kemenristekdikti noticed that every year there is always a rise in the value of the rupiah. Therefore his party is formulating to raise the amount of living cost money of Bidikmisi recipients.
Nasir also added that the increase in the cost of living is driven by the wish to break the chain of poverty. The reason is based on the results of the working visit of Bidikmisi Student Gathering of each region, there are still found many achieving students with poor economic circumstances.
Nasir also said, in addition to Bidikmisi, there is the Academic Achievement Program (PPA) scholarship to ease the burden of students who have been enrolled in college. This scholarship is to waive the cost of tuition. Each student receives Rp 4.8 million per semester without any pocket money/allowance. While another scholarship provided by the government is the higher education Affirmation program (Adik) for children of Papua and underdeveloped regions, outermost and frontier (3T).
