The Ministry of Education and Culture targets as many as 1,000 high schools to become referral schools, as an effort to improve the quality of education. Director General of Primary and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture Hamid Muhammad said the referral schools until now of the high school level there are about 700 and at the regency/ city at least one. He said the referral schools are equitable throughout Indonesia. However, there are in some big cities, more than one referral schools, for example, in Surabaya and Malang.
He revealed referral schools are very helpful. The goal is none other than to become an example of good schools, both in terms of management of the learning process, as well as achievement hoping to become the model or example for other schools. However, he said, on the matter of which school partners with which, is up to the respective schools. Looking ahead, it is expected the target of 1,000 high schools to become referral schools could be realized.
SMAN II Kediri, East Java, has been designated as one of the referral schools. Some of its excellent programs are the school literacy movement (GLS), safe school program, character education program, entrepreneurship. In addition, the national exam integrity index (IIUN) in this high school is high, OSN is successful, and SNMPTN and SBMPTN are successful.
Head of Kediri City Education Agency Siswanto said in Kediri, in the meantime SMAN II has officially become a referral school. Later it is expected other schools could work together and become partners. With the presence of referral schools, it would later be easier to improve the quality of education.
