Teacher Professional Education (PPG) becomes the last bastion for filtering qualified teacher candidates. Therefore, education personnel education institutions designated as professional education organizers place quality at stake with a number of conditions. PPG for a year with the pattern of boarding is followed by education and non-education undergraduates. Until this year, participants of PPG in education personnel educator institutions (LPTK) set by the government are alumni of Undergraduates Teaching (Sarjana Mendidik) in the Outermost, Frontier, and Disadvantaged (SM3T) Regions.

Vice Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Private LPTK Suyanto said the organizers of state and private LPTK are linked in a teacher education consortium to develop a PPG standard. The preparation should be very carefully done because PPG is the last filter to produce qualified teachers. According to Suyanto, less than 50 percent of the 380 private LPTK are of good quality. However, the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education continues to provide opportunity to private LPTKs able to qualify to become organizers of PPG. Currently, there are grants for strengthening of state and private LPTK.

Dean of the Faculty of Teaching and Education Science of Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, Joko Nurkamto said PPG organizers should be limited to ensure quality. UNS has entered the fourth year appointed to implement PPG for SM3T alumni and Integrated PPG. UNS has dorms. However, for a more appropriate boarding PPG for the target of generating professional teachers of character, support is needed to revitalize the dormitories on campus to be more adequate.

Meanwhile, Rector of Yogyakarta State University Rochmat Wahab said the government should really calculate the needs for teachers. Fulfillment of professionally certified teachers do not just focus on 3T areas, but also the needs in urban areas facing the problem of pension/ retiring teachers.
