Regarding the moratorium of the national exams (UN) has long been proposed by education observer of Yogyakarta State University (UNY) Prof Wuryadi who is also a senior researcher at the Board of Education of Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). According to him, the UN does not reflect the real potential of a student; nor can it analyze the quality and personality of a student.
In taking UN, he said students only learn the absolute truth, but do not use their intuition. Therefore, students are only used to thinking in a linear manner and unable to translate other things outside the lessons that are tested in the UN.
Prof Wuryadi said he had always suggested to hold nationwide school evaluation conducted within a certain time, but the evaluation is not to determine students’ graduation, moreover for a means to entering higher education. The evaluation is solely to assess the quality of the school. In addition, said Prof. Wuryadi, excellence in moral values cannot be viewed only from UN scores, so the indicators of student graduation and the quality of students escape.
Head of DI Yogyakarta Education Agency Kadarmanta Baskoro Aji said the removal of the UN would not affect the quality of education nor of graduates of schools in Yogyakarta. The elimination of UN would actually improve the quality of education because of course each region would create a formula corresponding to the blue print of that area.
