Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikiti) continues to improve the quality of higher education. The plan is the process of accreditation of study programs (Prodi) which was originally performed by the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) is to be replaced by the Independent Accreditation Agency or Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri (LAM). Higher education welcomed the establishment of LAM for each study program.  On condition, the process runs credibly and objectively.

Rector of State University of Jakarta (UNJ) Djaali welcomed the planned establishment of LAM. LAM will reduce the burden of BAN-PT in conducting accreditation.  So far, BAN-PT, as the state accrediting agency, is overwhelmed with the accreditation of universities and study programs whose numbers continue to grow each year.

He explained it is very difficult if accreditation is only contained by one body; because the number of study programs is always evolving and increasing. Each study program also has a typical characteristic. That is, each study program has different learning standards, performances, processes, teaching personnel, and facilities. Djaali said if there is LAM, assessment would be more objective and could refer to the peculiarities of each study program.

He warned if the planned formation of LAM will actually be realized, institutional structures must be filled by those who are credible. Especially the assessors conducting the accreditation. So, the process is carried out objectively so as to produce valid accreditation.
