Revitalisasi Politeknik Agar Lulusan Politeknik Makin Dilirik Industri

Republika,halaman 5

Revitalization of Polytechnics Will Produce Graduates More Attractive to Industry

Republika,page 5

Human resources being produced by the vocational universities are often not suitable to meet the needs of industry. Therefore, many of their graduates become unemployed. This is because they are not capable of operating in industrial fields said Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Menristekdikti), Mohammad Nasir.

According to Menrisktekdikti, in November 2016, five ministers agreed to develop the education of expertise in an effort to adjust the vocational universities to meet the needs of industry. Following up this memorandum of understanding, Kemenristekdikti immediately cooperated with the industrial parties to formulate the concept and arrange the revitalization program for these vocational universities or polytechnics.

This revitalization program has been started in early 2017.  The program leads all polytechnic graduates to obtain a certificate of competence so that they will be able to get a job according to their competences. In order to support their expertise, every polytechnic graduate will need to obtain a certificate of competence. These certificates will be issued by the independent institution and other certificates would be the responsibility of the government.

In this program, there will be a renewal of the curriculum, an adjustment towards the needs of industry. As a result, the graduates will have the expertise that industry needs.

The program will also fulfill the number of lecturers from industry, the implementation of a dual system through the teaching factory. This revitalization will implement the retraining/retooling by which existing lecturers can upgrade their expertise.

The Directorate General of Institutional of Science, Technology, and Higher Education of Kemenristekdikti, Patdono Suwignjo, said that the revitalization of the vocational universities must be focused on the needs of industry and these needs can be fulfilled by the educational capability. In today’s world, a company doesn’t just measure job seekers according to their certificates, but also in regard to their competence and expertise.

Suara Pembaruan, halaman 16

Suara Pembaruan, page 16

The Ministry of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Muhadjir Effendy, said that the standard of the Computer-Based National Exam (UNBK) that was conducted by the High School Equivalency Program was equal to that of the formal school. Initially, Mendikbud had held some reservations about the UNBK implementation for such High School Equivalency. However, the reality was that each problem was resolved and the exam ran smoothly, even though its participants were no longer young.

This was on the occasion that Muhadjir reviewed UNBK implementation at SMK Negeri 4 and SMP Negeri 5, two of the ten schools in Malang, East Java that had been appointed to implement the UNBK for the High School Equivalency Program. In his opinion, the quality of the UN implementation for the Equivalency Program went better than expected and was trusted. This was different from the viewpoint that considered the Program to be only a formality.

On other matters, he stated that almost all of the UN implementation for the High School Equivalency Program had been computer-based this year There were 626 participants in total and almost 100 percent implementation of UBNK in the city of Malang this year.

Such High School Equivalency Program data was input from the Community Learning Activity Center (PKBM) and one Learning Activity Workshop (SKB). Of 626 participants, there were 6 participants from the Correctional Institution (Lapas) Class I Lowokwaru. However, they still took the Pencil and Paper Based National Exam (UNPK).

Program Bela Negara Diusulkan Ganti Program Ospek

www.jakartaglobe.id

Military Program Set to Replace Student Orientation on Campuses

www.jakartaglobe.id

The government plans to replace student orientation at universities with a military-run program, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said on Monday (17/04).

The minister initiated the program, called “Bela Negara” (“Defend the Nation”), last year to instill patriotism among the youth and shield them from foreign influences, which he said at the time included radicalization, terrorism and drugs.

The new program for university freshmen would include outside classroom activities as well as field-marching and first-aid training. The classroom activity would instill the values of Pancasila and aim to instill in students a culture that opposes corruption and radicalism.

Studies by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in 2011 and Islamic think-tank, the Maarif Institute in 2013, found growing support on many of the country’s campuses for the establishment of an Islamic state in Indonesia.

The current student orientation program, known as ospek, has also been marred by violence. Almost every year, there are media reports of freshmen who are severely injured, or even killed, during orientation. These activities serve as a pretext for violent bullying by senior students eager to repeat the treatment they received during their orientation.

Ryamizard said he has discussed the plan with Research Technology and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir and also received the blessing of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to move forward with the plan.

Syarat Terakreditasi, PT Bisa Buka Prodi PPG

Indopos, halaman 2

For Accreditation Requirements, Universities can establish Teachers’ Profession Education Study Program (PPG Prodi)

Indopos, page 2

This year, the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristek-Dikti) will open a Teachers’ Profession Education Study Program (PPG Prodi). This was disclosed by the Director General of Institutional Science Technology and Higher Education, Patdono Suwignjo.

Patdono said that the policy aims to improve the quality of teachers and education in Indonesia. In addition the launch of the PPG study program is also to support the formation of competent teaching staff. Previously it had also opened an engineering profession education program.

Patdono said that the PPG Prodi will be opened in all Universities (PT). However the PTs must meet the requirements, namely accreditation of their institutions and S1/undergraduate programs. On the existence of this study program, the Kemenristekdikti will also remove the requirement of PPG participants required to follow the Undergraduates Educating in 3T regions (SM3T) program. Because according to him the PPG can be opened in all universities, either in Java or outside Java.

He said that the goal of the SM3T is to train prospective teachers in the regions. Because actually their study/education process is not in the regions. According to him, those who register for the PPG prodi are not required to be fresh graduates. Opportunities are also given to teachers who have not participated in the PPG.
