The Head of Central Committee of SNMPTN 2017, Ravik Karsidi, said that such high numbers of student acceptance was due to the number of of State Universities (PTN) in the province.

He said that there were 10 PTN in East Java following SNMPTN: State University of Surabaya, Sepuluh November Institute of Technology, Airlangga University, Trunojoyo University, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, State University of Malang, Brawijaya University, UIN Malik Ibrahim Malang, University of Jember, and UPN Veteran East Java.

Through the SNMPTN method, East Java Province has accepted 15,119 students, way above the 10,172 accepted by West Java Province in second position.
