Director General of Science and Technology and Higher Education Resources of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Ali Ghufron Mukti said that Indonesia’s educational challenges are increasingly complex as the public demand for quality education increases. Ghufron mentions, the quality of education is determined by educators, namely teachers. To that end, Kemristek Dikti as the party that manages the Education Personnel Educator Institute (LPTK) makes a grand design to simplify and realize alignment between the needs and availability.

Ghufron explained revitalization of LPTK is done to address the gap of teacher quantity and quality. The reason, Kemristek Dikti has conducted an analysis of education study program graduates in 2014 to 2016.

Based on the data obtained, there is a gap between the needs and availability of teachers of kindergarten, elementary, junior high school, and vocational high school levels from 2017 to 2024.  Because the graduates produced by LPTK is in sufficient quantity, but when viewed from the needs it is not the case.  In essence, there are many teacher graduates but not in accordance with the needs of teachers in certain subjects.

In the revitalization conducted by Kemristek Dikti, LPTK is encouraged to prepare graduates in accordance with the needs to address the needs of teachers until 2024, namely the availability of qualified teachers and having the competences in their field of knowledge. In this case, LPTK education study programs not needed or not in line with the times would be transferred to study programs that could form/shape competitive human resources.
