Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is the host of the 2017 Regional III Indonesia Robot Contest which takes place on May 11-13, 2017. A total of 73 teams from a number of universities from Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan competed in order to pass the national level of the Indonesia Robot Contest.
The Indonesia Robot Contest (KRI) is an annual competition in the field of robotics. The competition is followed by teams of students from higher education institutions, public or private, registered at the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.
The 2017 Regional III KRI organizing committee Maun Budiyanto said, 73 teams will compete in four categories of the contest. A total of 17 teams competed in the agility category, 26 teams competed in the fire extinguishing category, 17 teams competed in the wheelchair soccer category, and 13 teams competed for the category of Indonesian dance. The winning team in the agility category will be involved in the international robot competition in Tokyo, Japan, in August 2017.
Meanwhile, Head of UGM Creative Sub-directorate, Ahmad Agus Setiawan assessed this competition can improve the creativity of students who become participants. In addition, students can apply science and technology to the real world. Students, he added, are demanded to be sensitive and innovative in developing robotics technology. The knowledge of robotics that they obtain from the contest will be very useful when they enter the industrial world.
