The first day of the national-based school exam (USBN) for primary school (SD) level conducted yesterday (Monday, 15/5) was considered smooth. Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Muhadjir Effendy stressed the importance of honesty in the execution of the test to form/shape good character since childhood.

Mendikbud advised the students not to cheat and to do the test honestly, during his review of the USBN conducted  in SD Negeri 20 Kota Bengkulu, Bengkulu, yesterday (Monday, 15/5).

On the first day the subject tested was Bahasa Indonesia. As for the second day (today), the subject tested is mathematics, and the last day (tomorrow) is science (IPA).

In addition Muhadjir also said that the SD students are the seeds that should be instilled with character building. In the execution of the test, achievement is important, but the key is honesty. Therefore, he hoped that the teachers could help instill honesty values starting from the implementation of this school exam. Implant the spirit of good integrity to our children as the nation’s successor.

In some regions, the implementation of the USBN SD-level ran unhindered. In Lamongan Regency, East Java, for example, 17,953 primary/equivalent students took the test. Although the USBN is not a determinant for graduation, the exam was supervised by 2,912 supervisors. The same thing is found in Temanggung Regency, Central Java. According to the Secretary of the Education Agency of Temanggung Regency, Ujiono, the change in system has made printing of exams up to the distribution much easier and controllable.
