The five-day a week school policy is part of the Character Education Strengthening/Building (KDP) program. Every day, students will study for eight hours. The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) is waiting for the issuance of ministerial regulation (permen) to cover the five-day a week school policy in the academic year 2017/2018. Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said that the decision is just waiting for the issuance of the permen.
Although still awaiting permen, Muhadjir invited schools to hold the five-day a week school.
Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel Ministry of Education and Culture Sumarna Surapranata said the five-day a week school policy will begin to be implemented in July 2017 or in the new school year. He said the government is currently finalizing regulations related to this policy.
