Sumsel Free Lecture Program Stopped

The free lecture program (PKG) of the South Sumatra Provincial Administration (Pemprov Sumsel) which has been ongoing since 2015 was stopped this year. Head of Sumsel Education Agency Widodo said, Tuesday (13/6) the removal of PKG in 2017 was the impact of budget efficiency. This year, the provincial administration could only continue the budget for ongoing PKG recipients.

Widodo explained, the termination of PKG was because in the previous year the PKG budget in APBD Sumsel (regional budget) reached Rp30 billion, for this year only RP16 billion is allocated. Meanwhile, to realize the free lecture program, he continued, the South Sumatera Provincial Administration has established cooperation with three state universities (PTN) in this area, namely University of Sriwijaya (Unsri), State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Fatah and Polytechnic of Sriwijaya (Polsri ).

In addition, there are four other universities outside of South Sumatra and universities abroad, namely Wuxi University, Yangzhou University and Changzhou University. All three are in China. South Sumatra obtained a quota of 300 students. They study there with all the tuition and dorm fees borne by the respective universities.
