The national exam fiasco has caused the percentage of high school students who passed the national exams to drop by 0.02 percent. This year, the pass rate reached 99.48 percent, down from 99.50 percent the previous year.
Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh stated out of 1,581,286 high school students who took the exam, 1,573,036 students, or 99.48 percent of them managed to pass the exam, meaning only 0.52 did not pass.
As for vocational high schools, out of 1,106,140 students who took the national exams, 1,105,539 (95.95 percent) managed to pass while 601 students (0.05 percent) failed the national exams. The percentage of vocational high school students who passed the national exams also increased this year compared to last year’s 99.72 percent.
He added that although the national exams in 11 provinces were delayed, it did not have a significant effect on the results. The percentage in some areas decreased only slightly bringing no major concerns over the drop.
In East Nusa Tenggara, the pass rate increased from last year’s 97.68 percent to 98.25 percent this year. As for West Nusa Tenggara, the pass rate dropped to 99.24 percent compared to last year’s 99.84 percent. In East Kalimantan, the percentage dropped from 99.36 percent the previous year to 94.50 percent this year.
In South Kalimantan, the percentage dropped from 99.8 percent to 9.03 percent. In Bali, it increased from 99.61 percent to 99.97 percent. Bali even consisted of 5 students containing the highest scores in the nation.
In North Sulawesi, the percentage dropped from 99.58 percent to 98.28 percent. In Central Sulawesi, it increased from 99.19 percent to 97.68 percent. In South Sulawesi it dropped from 99.19 percent to 99.12 percent and lastly, in Gorontalo the percentage decreased from 99.90 percent to 99.38 percent.
