The convention held by the Ministry of Education and Culture on Thursday will determine whether or not the national exams will continue to be implemented as a prerequisite for students who wish to graduate or move on to the next level of education. In relation to this issue, a number of education activists are prepared to quash the implementation of the national exams by planning to hand out a ‘National Exam Black Book’ to members of the convention.

Secretary General of the Federation of Indonesian Teachers Associations (FSGI), Retno Listyarti, said the book will be given to members of the convention to make them realize how the national exams have the potential to destroy the future of the nation’s younger generation. She added that aside from the book, activists will also hand over a list of recommendations, which was gathered during the People’s Convention on Tuesday. One of the recommendations includes these activists demanding the Government to reposition the function of the national exams.
