UGM Inserts Pancasila Values in Each Subject

Rector of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta, Panut Mulyono said that he has issued an appeal to all lecturers in his campus to insert material on implementation of Pancasila values in each subject. According to Panut, as a university that has declared itself as a Pancasila campus, UGM has an obligation to help exercise the values of Pancasila in the daily life of society. Such efforts need to be done because as the final state ideology, Pancasila, Panut rates that so far it is still limited to being discussed in various forums rather than being practiced and contextualized in life.

According to Panut, Pancasila should not be merely discussed verbally without being contextualized with what is done in the community. Therefore, UGM is currently formulating a standard lecture methodology so that Pancasila could actually enter educational activities on campus. Pancasila should also be implemented in the tri darma of higher education.

Although still limited to an appeal for lecturers, according to him, the insertion of implementation of Pancasila in lecture material has already started in UGM. Lecturers can tell about the conformity of Indonesia’s current economic conditions with Pancasila values. Students, he said, among others could discuss solutions on the wide gap between rich and poor communities that do not reflect the ideals of Pancasila, for example.

In addition to delivering in the lecture material, according to Panut, UGM also continues efforts to organize forums of regional heads, to listen to various obstacles faced by respective regions and to help the regions to avoid the wide prosperity gap.  Because the struggle for prosperity is also a practice of Pancasila.
